LAND Working with gold as a colour is tricky. In art, gold is usually flat and decorative. But I wanted to give it depth and an organic feel. I wanted to bring it to life as a colour of the landscape, not just the colour of Byzantine mosaics and rococo interiors. Other things happen in my new paintings, darker things, but the starting point was the battle with gold.
